Safe opening in Ibi, and safes fixed where they stay put
A keypad that has gone dark, a code that left with a former employee, a safe inherited with a flat and no key. Opened with as little damage as it allows. And new safes anchored into something solid, so they stay where you put them.

A dark keypad is usually a power problem, not a broken safe. Fit four fresh batteries of the right type, and keep any emergency key that came with it somewhere other than inside the safe.
Instruction sheet
Opening a safe, in the order it is tried
-
Identify it
Maker, model and lock type, from the label and the front panel.
-
The gentle routes
Outside power for the keypad, the emergency lock, the factory reset procedure.
-
Work the lock
Dial and keypad locks are worked from outside; the body is left alone.
-
Drill, only with a yes
A single small hole at a known point, then a new lock so the safe can be used again.
Before it opens you are asked to show it is yours: the deeds or the lease of the home, or, for an office, a manager the company authorises.
Fitting
Where a new safe can be anchored
A safe is only as secure as what it is bolted into. Concrete floors and load-bearing walls hold anchors; thin brick partitions, common in flats from the 1960s and 70s, may not. About a third of Ibi’s built floor area dates from those two decades, so it is worth looking before buying. Fixing a safe in a flat with brick partitions.
In an office on one of the industrial estates, the safe usually goes into the floor slab. Units and their other locks are on the business page, and safes are fitted the same way in Castalla, Onil and Tibi.

Safes in second-hand homes and old offices
Almost every home sold in Ibi is second-hand, 73 of 74 in the third quarter of 2024, and a safe left behind by a former owner is a common find. So is an office safe whose code went with a retired partner. Both are opened the same way, once ownership is clear.
After a break-in, a safe anchored into concrete is worth more than a heavier one standing loose. What else to strengthen after a forced entry, and ordinary lock changes. A photo of the safe’s front and label can go through WhatsApp or email.
Questions
About safes that stay shut
The keypad does nothing at all. Is the safe broken?
Rarely. Usually the batteries are flat or have leaked. Many safes have battery contacts or a battery box reachable from outside for exactly this. Try fresh batteries before anything else.
We bought a flat and the safe came with it, locked. What do we need?
The deeds or the purchase contract, and a photo of the front of the safe and any maker’s label. It is opened, and you set a code of your own.
The office safe’s code left with somebody who no longer works here.
A manager authorised by the company confirms the work, the safe is opened, and the code is reset in front of whoever will hold it now.
Is a small safe worth fixing down?
Yes. A light safe that is not anchored can be carried out under an arm. Bolted from inside into concrete or solid brick, it has to be attacked where it stands.

With the maker’s label if there is one. From that, you hear how it is likely to open.
